President Obama opened his health care conference this week to rounding success at least from the Democratic side of the aisle. The Republicans are still hammering about too much spending. How hypocritical can they possibly be? (Don’t answer that!)
The automobile industry, as with the rest of the economy continues it’s downward spiral. Will GM be forced into bankruptcy by next week. There were some huge losses.
Speaking of huge losses, 667,000 made their way to the unemployment line in the month of February, bringing our national unemployment rate to a shameful 8.2%. As we’ve said before, if you factor in the people who have stopped looking for work, their benefits have run out, or they are now working a measly paying part-time job, that percentage swells to nearly 15%,

Welcome to the weekend version of Progressive News Radio’s “News Hour”
Actually, there’s so much to cover with the failed auto bailout and the corruption of Illinois Governor Blagojevich, today’s show is about 90 minutes, broken into two parts.
You can either download the files onto your computer to play later (mp3) or listen on the mp3 player below.
* The hoopla surrounding Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich has taken some pretty weird turns and I’m sure this entire episode is by no means anywhere near an end.
* But leave it to the idiotic pundits from Fox News and even Chris Matthews and Nora O’Donnell from MSNBC to try and make the connection between “Blago” and President-elect Barack Obama. It’s actually shameful (but golly, Jim…it’s brings in the ratings).
* Since it’s our Friday program, we’ll also talk with our long-standing guest and friend from Think Progress.org and The Center for American Progress, Ali Frick. Ali is also our political analyst here at PNR and we’ll talk with her about the Illinois Governor, the bailout failure and some other important stories.
* The days are getting nearer to January 21, 2009, when Barack Obama will be sworn in as President. He’s said that he’s going to use his middle name (Hussein) as he’s sworn in. Bay Buchanan thinks that’s OK, in her own condescending and bigoted way.
* Ben Fishel has a Media Matters Minute and Matt Rothschild, the editor of “The Progressive” has a “progressive point of view”.
* Earlier in the week, the Daily Show’s Jon Stewart went toe to toe with former Arkansas Governor and 2008 Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee about gay marriage. Will Jon win the argument. Naturally, if your a progressive…perhaps not if you’re a conservative.
Thanks again for coming to the site. Enjoy the program.

There may be one day a week where there’s so much to talk about, we’ll present a two hour podcast, but be sure that everything we talk about is important. (OK, maybe 98% of everything)
Ali Frick, our political analyst from Think Progress and the Center for American Progress will continue to join us each Friday, with her segment repeating on Monday’s podcast, in case you miss Friday’s show.
We’ll also continue to feature Matt Rothschild’s “Progressive Point of View” and “The Media Matters Minute” as well as interviews from politicians, important organizations and people in the entertainment business.

The world is congratulating Mr. Obama on his election and looks forward to a new start as Afghanistan welcomes an Obama Presidency and wants a new strategy (we had one?) / Discussion and confusion as the F.C.C. and The Supreme Court talk about indecency on television and radio and trying to determine how the “f” word is bad and under what context / Randi Rhodes takes on Limbaugh and so do we (sort of) / Ben Fishel has this week’s Media Matters Minute from Media Matters for America / Also other election night “goodies.”

On the October 28th edition of Progressive News Radio will hear us interview former Alabama Governor Don Sielgelman, who spent time in prison after being unjustly convicted of crimes he did not commit. For this week’s show, there’s plenty of interesting and educational programming.
